Sunday mornings, 9:30am-10:15am from February 24th through March 24th (5 weeks)
PLAY music is a parent-and-child, mixed-age, music and movement program for kids from babyhood through preschool (6 months through 4 years).
About PLAY music: PLAY music is a mixed-age, parent-and-child, music-and-movement curriculum for babies, toddlers, preschoolers and their families. Their weekly, session-based classes include small and large movement activities, use of props and percussion instruments, musical stories, chants, tonal and rhythm patterns, and a lot of singing.
Parent participation is key to all of this, and the program’s main objective is to send families home with fun and age-appropriate activities that they can enjoy together throughout the week. Each enrolled family gets a set of downloadable recordings (corresponding to the current session) and web-based family materials, which include sheet music, lyrics, movement guides, and ideas for activities to do at home.
The classes feature original and traditional material (all arranged and recorded by PLAY music), including American folk songs, songs from other cultures and in languages other than English, and songs that encourage children’s innate curiosity about the natural world.
Looking to current research on music and the brain, and developmentally appropriate practice, PLAY music strives to expose children to basic tonal vocabulary; to foster steady beat ability, which is fundamental to music, dance, and sports, and may also benefit self regulation and acquisition of vocabulary later on; and to bring the joy of music into the home as a whole-family activity.
Registration is at the PLAY Music site.
