New York Life- "Free Child ID" Event CANCELLED

Update: This event is cancelled and will be rescheduled for a later date.

New York Life will be at PlayLab on February 23rd from 10am-2pm to provide FREE Child ID's to the community!

Record your child’s vital statistics and important medical information in one convenient, safe place, in case of an emergency.Having a Child ID will give the parent or guardian peace of mind knowing that should anything ever happen to their child, they will have an ID with vital information to distribute to the local authorities.

Child IDs are created using the EZ Child ID System, the nation’s most comprehensive digital fingerprinting child identification system. Created with help from the National CHIP foundation and law enforcement officials, this system ensures that the digital fingerprints meet industry standards by capturing all vital information required by the Amber Alert system. In only 3 to 5 minutes, a Child ID card is printed for each parent or guardian free of charge. Child ID cards feature a child’s photo, fingerprints, contact information, and other pertinent data needed by the police in case of an emergency.

**No child’s information or pictures are electronically retained. All data is automatically erased upon printing the Child ID. Please note that this is NOT a sales pitch of any kind. It’s just a service being provided to local families, and New York Life has been doing events like these in communities across the nation for numerous years  **

PLAY Music Class

Sunday mornings, 9:30am-10:15am from February 24th through March 24th (5 weeks)

PLAY music is a parent-and-child, mixed-age, music and movement program for kids from babyhood through preschool (6 months through 4 years).

About PLAY music: PLAY music is a mixed-age, parent-and-child, music-and-movement curriculum for babies, toddlers, preschoolers and their families. Their weekly, session-based classes include small and large movement activities, use of props and percussion instruments, musical stories, chants, tonal and rhythm patterns, and a lot of singing.

Parent participation is key to all of this, and the program’s main objective is to send families home with fun and age-appropriate activities that they can enjoy together throughout the week. Each enrolled family gets a set of downloadable recordings (corresponding to the current session) and web-based family materials, which include sheet music, lyrics, movement guides, and ideas for activities to do at home.

The classes feature original and traditional material (all arranged and recorded by PLAY music), including American folk songs, songs from other cultures and in languages other than English, and songs that encourage children’s innate curiosity about the natural world.

Looking to current research on music and the brain, and developmentally appropriate practice, PLAY music strives to expose children to basic tonal vocabulary; to foster steady beat ability, which is fundamental to music, dance, and sports, and may also benefit self regulation and acquisition of vocabulary later on; and to bring the joy of music into the home as a whole-family activity.

Registration is at the PLAY Music site.

PLAYLAB’S YOGA BASICS FOR BEGINNERS.

$16 for drop in class |6 class pass $96

Advanced registration required.

With a deep, welcoming inhalation and a calm, surrendering exhalation, come and join PlayLab’s Yoga Basics for beginners. Join together to share and receive all existing knowledge from one another and ground all new coming thoughts and energy.

Class Guideline:

● A brief chant and meditation to begin the class, followed by calm, cooling breath work.

● Body warm-up! A traditional Sun Salutation A to get our body flowing. This Sun Salutation will be repeated 5x to activate our body heat that way our muscles are more accessible to make some free movement.

● Once we’ve gotten the hang of the flow, we will move into shoulder, hip and hamstring opening stretches to loosen up those tight muscles from being at work all day (or not! Still worth the stretch!).

● Towards the last 10 minutes of the class, abdominal exercises will take place during this time. Gotta keep those babies happy and toned!

● Last but definitely not least, Svasana. A deep, grounding meditation lying completely flat on your mat to end our practice.

PLAYLAB’S YOGA BASICS FOR BEGINNERS.

7:00 PM19:00

Several mats will be provided. Please feel free to bring your personal mats and water.

P.S. During the class, hands-on assists will be given by the instructor unless requested hands-off

Advanced registration required. Register here

BE SMART'S presentation on Gun Safety

Friday, February 22nd, 5pm-6pm

Join us for a workshop on how to talk to your kids about guns, and what kids can do if they ever encounter guns in the hands of other children.  The presentation and Q&A is full of helpful information that will leave parents feeling empowered to keep their kids safe.

It’s not political in way, and is designed to make all parents and caregivers - gun owners and non-gun owners - more aware of how they can take easy steps to prevent gun violence.

Be Smart was developed by Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, and focuses on educating parents about the importance of gun safety, specifically on how to prevent accidental shootings, suicides, and even homicides by ensuring children don’t gain access to firearms (in their homes or homes they are visiting).

This workshop is FREE with admission or membership.

New York Life- "Free Child ID" Event

New York Life will be at PlayLab on January 26th from 9am-2pm to provide FREE Child ID's to the community!

Parent/Nanny Mixer

Finding a quality nanny, babysitter, or caregiver can be difficult! From availability to reliability and trust, there is much to consider when making the delicate decision to have someone else care for your child. Likewise, many qualified Nannies rely on word-of-mouth to hear about new jobs, and would like to work more hours.

At this event, we bring these two groups together to chat, mingle, and enjoy refreshments. Nannies bring their availability, experiences, and resumes and Parents come prepared with questions and expected duties for this "Speed Dating" format.

Everyone will walk away with tons of new possibilities, as well as access to an Exclusive Facebook Group to keep the networking going!

Parents, register here

Nannies/Babysitters, register here

  • Please note: we do not screen for parties who want only full time or part time positions.  In the past, we have heard that many families are hiring only part-time help, and that many nannies/sitters are seeking full-time help.  Please approach the event with an open mind; you never know what connections you will make and how they may be useful to you later!

  • Due to capacity limits, this will be an adults-only event, no children allowed.

  • No refunds will be issued after January 16th.
